Accommodation in Myanmar
Twenty years ago, accommodation in Myanmar was difficult to find, outside the main tourist spots, and often of poor quality. Now, there's a good choice of accommodation in most places, with budget hostels and family guesthouses in even quite small cities, and luxurious hotels and resorts in Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and Ngapali Beach.
Most accommodation, even the cheapest, will provide breakfast, do laundry and help you find bikes, buses, taxis or guides. Free wifi is also becoming increasingly standard, though it may only work in the reception area or lobby.
As a foreigner, you can't couch surf or use AirBNB in Myanmar - you have to stay in accommodation that's licensed for foreigners. And there are still a few destinations, like Salay, where there's no accommodation at all.
